The Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce welcomes their new CEO Robin Bobocel.

Bobocel said the Chamber, under his leadership, will not get involved with politics, however, it will advocate and develop policy that supports the business community.

He believes that through the many leaders that call themselves Chamber members—Red Deer business will thrive.

“I believe real leaders are leaders of business,” he said

Leadership is needed, according to Bobocel, because of non business friendly policies that are hurting Red Deer like the carbon tax, federal small business tax changes and raises to the minimum wage.

 

“There is a feeling that business doesn’t have a seat at the table,” he said.

This has been a big topic since cannabis has become legal in Canada on Oct 17th,2018. The Federal Government has made it legal to grow up to 4  cannabis plants in your home.

 I read a blog on Zoocasa.com, in their blog they stated that 52 % of home buyers said they would not purchase a home where there was the legal amount of cannabis grown. I believe this is a study they did themselves on their website and unfortunately it does not show how many people took part of the study and it does not state why people feel this way. So to have some fun with it I decided to do my own poll on Facebook. I didn’t do this on a large scale by any means but was just curious what the outcome would be.  Over 6 days I’ve had 61 Votes (32 – Yes & 29 – No) 52%

 Ice Skating

The City of Red Deer sets up 76 outdoor ice rinks every year. These rinks are easily found in each community. Most communities offer a rink set up for playing hockey and rink dedicated just for skating. Bower Ponds is the perfect place for family and friends to gather. Here you can enjoy endless skating on the pond and you can warm up by the camp fire. Skate Rentals and skate sharpening are available. Food available on site as well.
